What is PENNSCYPAA?
PENNSCYPAA is the Pennsylvania State Conference of Young People in Alcoholics Anonymous. This annual convention that provides an opportunity for members of AA to come together and share their experience, strength, and hope. Started in 1989, PENNSCYPAA has hosted in various cities across the state.
At PENNSCYPAA, there are big speaker meetings, meetings around the clock, panels, workshops, outreach by service entities, archives display, service opportunities, social events, dancing, and a sobriety countdown over a fellowship-filled three-day weekend. We aren’t a glum lot. There are no age restrictions for participation. All AA members are welcome. We define “young people” as anyone who still has room to grow.
PENNSCYPAA and other young people groups and conferences are in no way separate from Alcoholics Anonymous as a whole. The three legacies of AA — Recovery, Unity, and Service — are the backbone of PENNSCYPAA, just as they are throughout AA. PENNSCYPAA operates in accordance with GSO guidelines for Conferences, Conventions, and Roundups.
In 2004, Williamsport hosted PENNSCYPAA XVI. From a token bid in 2016, to formal bids 2017-2021, another set of hopefuls formed another Bid Committee to host PENNSCYPAA for 2022.
